Medication is completely optional, but if you’re interested it can be an integral piece of the puzzle for some people. MAT is a safe and effective form of alcohol use disorder treatment, especially when combined with other services like group therapy.
Depending on your background and goals for treatment, a medical professional will help you decide if medication would be a good option for you.
