What is Medication-Assisted Treatment with Suboxone?

At Better Life Partners, many of our members use medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with Suboxone to treat their opioid addiction. MAT is a form of treatment that has been shown to be safe and effective at treating opioid addiction. Studies have shown that MAT can help those living with opioid use disorder by reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms as well as decreasing chances of overdose-related deaths.

MAT usually consists of a combination of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and behavioral therapy, but you can also use other resources alongside it. We prescribe Suboxone, which is a MOUD made up of buprenorphine and naloxone that has been shown to be safe and effective at treating opioid addiction. You’re able to use MAT for as long as medically necessary when you’re with us, it has been shown to be safe for long-term and short-term treatment plans.

Better Life Partners provides medication-assisted treatment in Massachusetts. When you get MAT through us, you’re getting high-quality care and support throughout the entire process. You’ll have a clinician walking you through your treatment process, and you’ll also get support from group counseling sessions with other members of your community. We’ll make sure you’re getting the support you need during recovery.

What Does Opioid Addiction Look Like?

It can be difficult to know for sure if you or a loved one is living with opioid addiction, but there are a few signs to look out for, such as:

  • Isolation from friends and family
  • New financial struggles
  • Weight loss
  • Lack of hygiene
  • Along with others.

Opioid addiction is defined by Johns Hopkins Medicine as a medical condition in which one is “not able to abstain from using opioids, and behaviors around opioid use interfere with daily life.” Opioid use disorder is a medical condition and it should be treated with compassion and respect just like any other.

If you suspect a loved one is living with opioid addiction, make sure to show them that you’re there to support them, not judge them. Respect their choices and don’t make them feel like they need to seek treatment if they aren’t ready for it. At the end of the day, it’s their life and they get to decide if and when they begin recovery, the best thing you can do is make your support known.
